Mobile, Ala. – Spring Hill College is excited to announce a new partnership with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) to host a children’s golf league from May 26 to August 8, offering young golfers an incredible opportunity to develop their skills on Mobile’s oldest public course, the Spring Hill College Golf Course.
“There couldn’t be a more perfect fit for a CYO Golf League than right here at Spring Hill College,” says John Michael Faggard, Director of Golf and Head Women’s Golf Coach at Spring Hill. “It’s really a sport for everyone. This is a great way to expose our kids to this amazing game and on behalf of the College, we look forward to maintaining this partnership with the CYO for years to come.”
Thanks to the generous support of Mobile Bay Roofing, this program will give participants the opportunity to practice and improve their golf game in a supportive and engaging environment. From Monday to Thursday, between 9:30 a.m and 11:00 a.m, the 18-hole Spring Hill College Golf Course will be open exclusively for CYO members. The schedule is divided into two groups: Mondays and Wednesdays will be dedicated to rising sixth through eighth graders, while Tuesdays and Thursdays will focus on rising third through fifth graders.
In addition to regular practice sessions, three competitive tournaments will take place throughout the summer: June 25, July 16 and August 8. These tournaments will give participants a chance to showcase their skills and compete in a fun, friendly atmosphere.
The total cost of participation is $300 per child, which includes high-level instruction of the fundamentals including rules, etiquette and techniques.
The clinic will be led by John Michael Faggard and Director of Instruction Gabe Shinn. They will be joined by Steve Hodges, a Class A golf professional and head men’s coach for the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA); Kathy Ghioto, Class A PGA professional; and Greg Hamilton, a PGA lifetime member to provide expert guidance and instruction.
“The CYO is thrilled to partner with Spring Hill College to establish a golf program for our young student-athletes,” says CYO Director David Weems. “This collaboration is a great opportunity to provide valuable life skills, all while fostering a love for the game of golf. Together, we aim to bring the core values of the CYO to this newly established program.”
