By learning about my students’ lives and observing I’ve learned that I am more patient than I thought. Because I know the kids are lacking certain home necessities, I feel like it’s my duty to do right by them and show them what it means to live their lives properly and to the fullest. I feel like a big brother.

I am glad to do this because it’s a humbling experience. The little I help actually makes a difference.

Working with kids is a great experience because they begin to look up to you and pay attention to things that you are trying to teach them.

To apply: Write an essay (approximately one page long) describing a situation in which you became directly aware of the needs of others.
