REAL-STEM Program Student and Faculty Mentor Invited to Prestigious S-STEM Scholar Meeting

Mobile, Ala.– Spring Hill College is proud to announce that Anna Kate Driver, current REAL-STEM Scholar, and Dr. Pamela Quintana, Assistant Professor of Math and Physics, have been selected to represent the College and its REAL-STEM (Reflection, Engagement, Action and Learning– Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program at the upcoming S-STEM Scholar Meeting in San Diego, sponsored jointly by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the S-STEM Resource & Evaluation Center (S-STEM REC).

This prestigious national event brings together top S-STEM scholars and mentors from across the country, providing opportunities to learn about STEM careers, internships, educational opportunities and professional development activities. Driver and Quintana were nominated through Spring Hill College’s REAL-STEM program and selected by AAAS and S-STEM REC. 

Ms. Driver and Dr. Quintana will represent the REAL-STEM program, which was launched in 2023 and funded by a generous grant from the National Science Foundation. The program is designed to increase the number of Pell-eligible students with strong academic potential, talent or ability who pursue careers in high-demand STEM fields. In addition to scholarship support, Spring Hill College provides REAL-STEM Scholars with academic and social support that is designed to help them succeed in their STEM major. Through shared coursework, service activities and participation in a living-learning community, Scholars develop a sense of common purpose and belonging while still enjoying the fullness of the SHC experience. Scholars also benefit from faculty and peer mentors and have opportunities to pursue undergraduate research, internships and other professional development opportunities.

The upcoming S-STEM Scholar Meeting in San Diego will offer Driver and Quintana the chance to present their work, participate in a Career and Education Fair, and connect with hundreds of fellow scholars and professionals from across the country— all while showcasing Spring Hill College’s unique REAL-STEM program.
